Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, stars of Dallas Buyers Club, were the first duo since 1959 to pick up Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for the same movie. But Leto won the battle of search, possibly due to his social media presence and band, 30 Seconds to Mars; queries for both spiked during the Academy Awards.
A rising star
Leto dominated search for the first half of 2014, but McConaughey stole the lead upon the release of his latest movie, Interstellar.
Dallas Buyers Club is a 2013 biographical drama starring Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto. Interest in the movie jumped 8x this year after it won three Oscars in March.
McConaughey won Best Actor for his exceptional performance in the movie, but it wasn't his only moment in 2014. The crime series True Detective and the space epic Interstellar both spiked in search.
