A record year
Frozen took home three Oscars, and perhaps thanks to the effervescent Ellen, this year's ceremony was the most searched in history. Nolan's space epic got us searching, but we needed ‘interstellar explained.' Palme d’Or winner Kış Uykusu (Winter Sleep) was the foreign language movie with the highest rise in search.
Matthew McConaughey versus Idina Menzel
Two actors stepped into center stage this year. One made an Oscar-winning move to serious roles, dubbed "the McConaissance"; the other made it big on Broadway and found fame with Frozen.
The New Yorker coined the term “McConaissance,” referring to Matthew McConaughey's move from action adventure hero to Hollywood A-list. Searches for the actor tripled this year.
When John Travolta announced Frozen and Wicked star Idina Menzel at the 2014 Oscars, he mistakenly called her "Adele Dazeem." Searches for 'travoltify your name' grew in the days after the ceremony.
JLaw rules
2013's golden girl continued to lead searches following her Golden Globes win, beating Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie.
Still searching for a legend
The enduring Woody Allen has released at least one movie a year since 1992 and was the most searched director in 2014. His drama Blue Jasmine received three nominations at this year’s Oscars.
Real hero
Following 12 Years a Slave’s Oscar recognition, searches for the actual Solomon Northup, an American abolitionist, were over 10x higher than for the actor who played him, Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Buoyant Bollywood
Hollywood may be the focus of the movie world, but Bollywood grew more in search this year. The movies we searched for most were Kick, Bang Bang and Jai Ho.

Hollywood's stellar couple got married this year, but Angelina Jolie stole the search headlines, finishing higher than her husband, Brad Pitt. Her top search was her wedding dress, which her kids designed.
Snacking silver screen style
'Candy' was searched 2x more than 'popcorn' when we wanted something a little sweeter.
