This year Game of Thrones beat fierce competition from Sherlock, Orange Is the New Black and the breakout series True Detective. Starring Oscar-winning Matthew McConaughey and Oscar-nominated Woody Harrelson as detectives Rust and Marty, the show achieved both critical acclaim and the highest TV spike of 2014.
A year of great characters
Game of Thrones had a hero in search but was seriously challenged by a super geek from The Big Bang Theory.
Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington, is a major character in all five seasons of Game of Thrones. Steward of the Night's Watch, he was the second highest spiking character across all TV shows in 2014.
The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper, famed for his high IQ, was the most searched character in global TV this year. Jim Parsons' portrayal of the pedantic physicist has won him three Emmys.
And the 2014 king of chat is...
Jimmy Fallon was consistently searched more than his rivals, Conan O'Brien, David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel. But the queen was Ellen DeGeneres, who topped them all after hosting this year's Oscars.

Daily dose of drama
The biggest soap in search was Avenida Brasil, which hails from the South American country. Launched only two years ago, the telenovela has been distributed to 124 countries across the world.
